Women In Media Short Form Film Finishing Grants

The Women In Media Short Form Film Finishing Grants are a vital opportunity to bring our member’s projects to fruition. WiM Short Form Grants support completion of either a short narrative, short documentary, or other short form projects with a completed running time of no more than 30 minutes. 

The Short Form Grants will be between $500 – $3,000 cash, as well as consultations, mentorships, and services for film finishing. Consultants include: Vickie Sampson – Post production sound; Jennifer Smith – Music clearance; and Kimberley Browning – Film festival strategy. More to be announced.

Grant submission requirements

The Women In Media Short Form Film Finishing Grants are only available to California Women In Media members with an up to date CrewList profile. Ensure that you are a registered member of www.womennmedia.com and listed on the WIM CrewList. CrewList Guidelines can be found here.

There is no fee to submit.

Funds may be used for (but are not limited to) the following:

Picture/Sound editing
Additional photography
Post Sound
Color grading
DCP
Music/composing/music rights
VFX

Funds may not be used for the following:

Although we expect your film to be distributed and marketed, this grant cannot be used for any costs associated with distribution such as festivals or marketing materials. 

You must meet this criteria:

Thoroughly read the guidelines and requirements outlined below. Pay attention to details such as submission deadlines, project scope, and the intended use of the funds. Late applications will not be accepted. 

  • California Resident
  • WiM CrewList profile link
  • Fulfill one or more of the following roles: director, producer, writer
  • Completed film must be 30 minutes or less
  •  Sign the Parity In Action Pledge
  • Qualify for, and add the Parity In Action Badge to end credits and marketing materials
    • To qualify for the Parity In Action Badge, at least 40% of your crew must be women or gender nonconforming individuals (may be a combination of production and post production personnel)
  • Project synopsis
  • Submit the script and budget
  • Submit production and post production crew lists
  • Submit projected post production budget, schedule and completion plan
  • Film must be, at minimum, in rough cut stage with a description of remaining work needed to complete
  • If grant will not be sufficient to complete the film, please submit where additional funds will be coming from
  • Written monthly progress reports including cost reports
  • Expected date of completion (no later than one year from date of grant award) 
  • Applicants may submit multiple projects, but each project must be separately submitted
  • By submitting your project, you certify that you have the rights to this intellectual property
  • Filmmaker is responsible for obtaining all licenses and clearances in order to legally distribute the film
  • Thank Women in Media, Creative Arts LA, and relevant vendor partners by adding their logos in the end credits of the film
  •  Include Women In Media in your social marketing campaign
