Announcing Our Two Developing Filmmaker Fellows!

Emma Forthofer and Sayla U’ilani Whalen

Emma is a grip/electric/cinematographer. and Sayla is a writer/director. We are so please to be able to offer these ambitious young women a boost to their careers. Our goal is to give women and gender non-conforming crew the tools and connections to succeed in the behind the scenes roles.

The competition was fierce, and we are so proud of everyone who applied. We have gifted the top ten semi-finalists a complementary one year PRO membership.

About the Developing Filmmaker Fellowship

With support from the California Arts Council, WOMEN IN MEDIA is proud to introduce the Developing Filmmaker Fellowship, a two-year educational mentorship program available to young adults seeking entry-level career opportunities in the entertainment industry in the greater Los Angeles area. 18 to 24 year old female, female-identifying, and/or gender nonconforming filmmakers from any behind-the-scenes discipline were invited to apply.

Both fellows receive complimentary pro-level Women In Media memberships for two years (including support to develop a WiM CrewList profile); complimentary admittance to all applicable programs, events and training opportunities offered by WiM during the Fellowship; one-on-one coaching from industry mentors; and the opportunity to receive a paid, entry-level internship with one of WiM’s industry partners, as well as industry focused events.

The fellowship is aimed at underserved communities who might not have the network, guidance, or the means to enter and thrive in the entertainment industry.
