In collaboration with GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics and Women in Media’s #ProudlyWiM Initiative, TBWA\Chiat\Day invites you to an exclusive afternoon of conversation about queer film favorite But I’m A Cheerleader. There will be drinks, nibbles, and cupcakes too!
Queer Touchstone: A Tribute to the Legacy of But I’m a Cheerleader
Film/TV producer Effie T. Brown (The Inspection, Dear White People, Real Women Have Curves) and actor Joel Michaely (Joel in But I’m a Cheerleader, Little Women, Sabrina The Teenage Witch) join moderator writer/director/showrunner Scottie Jeanette Madden (Proud in A Pandemic, Dude You’re Screwed, Land Rush) for a joyous and enlightening conversation about the making—and ongoing impact—of 1999’s cult hit But I’m a Cheerleader.
Why has this biting comedy, about a maybe-lesbian high school cheerleader (Natasha Lyonne) who winds up in a conversion therapy camp, remained so beloved nearly 25 years after its release?
Food and beverages will be provided before and after our 45-minute discussion followed by Q&A. Enjoy choice moments from the film too!
