Negotiating Up + Networking & Nibbles
Aug 19 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm PDT
Negotiating Up!
Led by film industry experts and renowned corporate negotiators, the Negotiating Up seminars provided participants with practical strategies and techniques to confidently navigate challenging negotiations. Participants learned how to articulate their value, ask for what they deserve, and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
Networking & Nibbles
Since having a strong network is crucial to your career, the seminar was coupled with an exciting day of networking and nibbles. Emerging professionals, those established in their career, and those looking to hire more women, were offered a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded filmmakers. Folks shared their experiences, exchanged ideas, and expanded their networks while enjoying delicious nibbles throughout the day.
Prepared To Prosper
Preparation is crucial before entering any negotiation. It greatly enhances your chances of achieving favorable outcomes and maintaining positive relationships. Going into a meeting prepared can be the difference between a win-win outcome, or settling for the minimum. We discussed defining your goals and objectives for negotiation, as well as how to prepare and strategize so that you have the necessary confidence to communicate your value.
We were absolutely thrilled to have a top procurement negotiator who has worked with some of the biggest corporations in the world, securing favorable outcomes for her own salary and benefits as well as on behalf of the companies she’s worked for.
Vicki Cocchiarella is a negotiator with more than twenty years experience managing construction and renewable energy. She has negotiated deals for Fortune 500 corporations, including Apple, Uber, LinkedIn, and Applied Materials. She has led key negotiations instrumental to the development of utility-scale renewables and corporate campuses, including Apple Park and Uberโs Mission Bay campus. Her experience in creating strategies to address exponential growth, tight deadlines, and the exceptionally demanding internal business clients of Silicon Valley start-ups has given her a strong ability to liaise between groups with differing agendas, and deliver projects in a transparent manner.
A New York native, she lives in San Francisco with her teenage son, and their formosan mountain dog, Bear.

Negotiating For Keys and Crew
As entertainment industry professionals working in physical production, it’s imperative that we understand what we can be asking for in contracts and deal memos. Contracts and deal memos can vary greatly based on the specific project, your role, and the production company’s policies. It’s important to tailor the contract to your needs and ensure that you’re comfortable with its terms before signing.
