With two decades of experience in the film industry, my portfolio ranges from film and television to commercial productions. My strong points are my creative approach to visual storytelling and my close collaboration with the production. My keen eye for lighting was shaped early in my career with the help of the outstanding Berlin lighting group “The Flying Lights” lead by Master Gaffer Christoph Nickel (Netflix: Babylon Berlin, Homeland).
My sense of framing and visual storytelling was guided by Cinematography classes with Master Cinematographers such as Vilmos Zsigmond, A.S.C. (Black Dahlia), Natasha Braier, A.S.C. (Neon Demon) and Prof. Sophie Maintigneux (German TV and Film Academy in Berlin).
One of my recent achievements is the 2024 Women In Media Altitude Award which recognizes technical and artistic achievements in cinematography. Peer professionals, among them from the American Society of Cinematographers, evaluated the applicants bodies of work. Alicia Robbins (DoP of Bridgertons, Grey’s Anatomy) wrote that “Gabi’s versatility in her camera work shows that she can tackle any challenge that a project may present. She’s a force to be reckoned with and ready for a big break.”
DoP Fernando Argüelles, ASC, AEC states that “Gabi has a very distinctive visual storytelling. Her work pushes boundaries in the world of cinematography with skillful camera and lighting work. I eagerly anticipate the remarkable work she’ll produce in the future. “
And Alan Caso, ASC, said that "Gabi has solid lighting chops. She creates great depth and texture with her lighting and staging. There are some really wonderful images and she clearly knows what she is about. It’s really stand-out work."
In addition to my work as a cinematographer, I also enjoy passing on my knowledge to the next generation. Besides being invited as a guest professor for Cinematography and Lighting classes at Concordia University in Montréal, Los Angeles Film School and Mount Saint Mary’s University in L.A., I have also lived in the Atikamekw First Nation of Wemotaci in Québec, where I taught the local youth directly on location in the studio trailer of the organization Wapikoni Mobile.
