Like virtually all women, my life has been defined in contrast to the men by whom I was surrounded. Most notably, in the 24 years I've spent in the practice of law -- 15 as a trial attorney -- I have been routinely disrespected, "undersold" and otherwise taken lightly. My response to that reliable reception has always been, simply, what hoops coach Pat Summitt frequently told her athletes concerning their regard for their opponents, "Here's how I'm going to beat you. I'm going to outwork you. That's it. That's all there is to it." It's facile to say, but nevertheless, "That's me." I am relentless when I set my mind to something.
