Melissa Almonor is a screenwriter born to Haitian immigrants raised on the green hills of Southern New Hampshire. While the other kids cheered fizzy apple cider at the stroke of New Year’s Day, her family raised their spoons to squash soup to celebrate the Haitian Revolution. Much like her life, Melissa’s journey to screenwriting can be described as a walking contradiction. After spending her childhood as the only black girl in every classroom, she gained the confidence of a white man. Her 4-year education in journalism exposed her to the hard and fast truth of the world, while the freedom of fiction allowed her to create worlds that exposed the humanity in her community. Melissa’s writing style follows female-driven narratives that capture flawed women's complexities, cleaver determination, and their strive for the American Dream.
