Barbara Dunphy has worked in the film business since she graduated in Studio Arts from The Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto, Canada, first working to develop a film co-operative, then editing and womaning news cameras for CITY-TV, then onto directing short documentaries. She has a BA in Art and an MFA in Media Design. Dunphy is an award winning Production Designer of such features as “A New Life”—an Alan Alda film with Ann Margaret, “Man Without a Face”—Mel Gibson’s directorial debut, “Dick”—Andy Flemming’s spoof of Watergate with Kirsten Dunst and Michele Williams, and Miramax’s “Reindeer Games”—John Frankenheimer’s last feature with Ben Afleck, Charlise Theron and Gary Sinise. Travels for movies have taken her to Jjamaica, Czech Republic, Bosnia i Hersegovina (Sarajevo), Hungary, Israel, Mexico, Canada and England for various shows for HBO—“Sugartime”, “Gotti: King of the Volcano”, “Shot Through the Heart” nominated for a Gemini for Best Art Direction, for ABC—“Radiant City”, “The Reef”, NBC—“Night Sins”, and for CBS—“Jackie” and “The Reagans” nominated for an ADG award for Best Art Direction. Dunphy has been teaching Production Design for the last ten years at the Los Angeles Film School and Santa Monica College which she finds very fulfilling, nicely paced, and leaving time for her art.
